Son 1964
A beautifully shot biopic of the great Ukrainian poet and cultural icon Taras Shevchenko told through a series of flashbacks. The film, which borrows its title from one of Shevchenko's better known and more controversial works, follows his life from his humble beginnings in serfdom in rural Ukraine, to his becoming of a house servant for a Russian aristocrat and his blossoming into a great poet and artist in the years that followed.
