Blood and Lace opens with what, at the time, was a fairly novel shot from the killer’s perspective, as they make their way through a home, hammer held aloft, and finally brutally murder a woman and her lover as they lay in bed. We soon learn that the woman, Edna Masters, is a well-known local prostitute with a laundry list of lovers that goes back for decades in her small town. The one witness, Edna’s teenage daughter, Ellie (Melody Patterson), is now left an orphan, and placed in the care of Mrs. Deere (Gloria Grahame) – a once-wealthy widow who has turned her deceased husband’s estate into a home for wayward teens. Mrs. Deere, however, isn’t the Good Samaritan she pretends to be, and, along with her shady handyman/enforcer, Tom (Len Lesser), Mrs. Deere treats her wards like indentured servants, killing and freezing any who try to escape. While Ellie must now contend with the twisted Mrs. Deere and Tom, she also comes to the realization that the man who killed her mother may be also seeking her out to tie up any loose ends.
