Call Northside 777 (1948) DVD9
Chicago reporter P. J. McNeal (James Stewart) reluctantly follows through when his editor Brian Kelly (Lee J. Cobb) sends him out to find out why an old scrubwoman (Kasia Orzazewski) is putting up a $5000 reward for anyone who can prove that her son Frank Wiecek (Richard Conte) is innocent of killing a policeman eleven years before.
Initially skeptical, Steward gradually comes to believe that the poor man was, indeed, the victim of a miscarriage of justice. When he begins to investigate he meets increased resistance from authorities unwilling to be proved wrong.
Loosely based on a real Chicago incident.
