Claudio Caldini Experimental Films
Part of the Argentine experimental film scene in the Seventies, Claudio Caldini left for India after the dictatorship assumed power, his Super-8 works in tow. Vibrating white flowers shimmer and shake as they flash by in Ofrenda (78); purple petals tremble up close uncontrollably in Vadi-Samvadi (81); thin stripes of light bisect one another before giving way to the closed window in Ventana (75). Windows form a metaphor for vision, opening out to possibilities, as in the drifting, shifting images of friends appearing and disappearing in the open window frame of La Escena Circular (82). When you watch Caldini's natural wonders in any of the 12 films collected here, you’re only watching one version of them. Throughout his career the still-active filmmaker has screened them within multi-projector performances.
