Daniel Kamwa was born in Nkongsamba, Cameroon in 1943 and later moved to Paris where he also studied cinema. He joined Peter Brook’s comedy troupe as an actor in 1968 before leaving to work in theater, film and television. He directed his first short film, Boubou Cravate, in 1972, and his first feature in 1976: Pousse-Pousse, one of the most popular and successful films shown in francophone Africa at that time.
In 1981 he directed "Notre Fille", which won the prize for the best actor in Carthage in 1982, "Totor" (1994), which won the UNICEF Prize at Fespaco in 1995 and was selected for the Cannes junior section in 1995. He has also directed many documentaries as well as programs on black writers, "Videolire" (1990-91). He directed "Le Cercle des Pouvoirs" (1997).

Pousse-pousse (1976)
Pousse-Pousse is a comedy that tells the story of a scooter-driver who wants to marry Rose and buy a car. Pousse-Pousse ends up using all his savings to pay the traditional dowry to his demanding future father-in-law, Daddy Besseke who takes excessive advantage of this custom. Daddy Besseke's greed knows no bounds - he demands more and even kidnaps his own daughter on her wedding day.
Notre fille (1980)
Papa Mbarga, head of a big family and chief of a village, is getting ready to pay a visit to his daughter, Charlotte Mbarga who works in a big Ministry in Yaounde. The daughter has obviously left the the village and all of tradition behind, to move to the big city, where she’s a professional, with plans to start her own family. But the father wants her to give all that up, and instead return to the village and adhere to traditional customs.
Boubou cravate (1972)
A young Cameroonian diplomat goes home and feels divided between the habits of life learned in Europe and African traditions. In his house, everything is European, from the furniture to the cooking and music. But his wife, who has not shared his European experience, cannot understand him. During a very formal reception, the servants begin to play the tam-tams, accentuating the cultural conflict.
Totor (1994)
This delightful film is an African variation on themes from Huckleberry Finn and Night of the Hunter. A little boy of ten named Mentse escapes from a burning hut, pursued by a man who claims to be his father. Finding sanctuary from the inhospitable jungle, he becomes fast friends with Nga’nsi, a lovely girl who can see beyond the visible. Mentse’s journey winds into ever more wondrous territory, in which he discovers a very unusual turtle (Totor) and a city where no city ought to be.
Le cercle des pouvoirs (1998)
Jisset, a talented and popular journalist working for "Le Perroquet" an independent weekly magazine, is currently following up a tight investigation on the strange dealings of an important businessman of the country, Mr. Moni-Sam. While investigating, Jisset falls in love with Sifoh, a young and beautiful stylist model whom Moni-Sam is also trying by all possible means to pull into his sphere of influence.
