Expose / Trauma / The House on Straw Hill (1976) DVD9, Blu-Ray
Udo Kier plays Paul Martin, a writer whose first novel was a big success, but who is now struggling to write the follow-up in a remote country house. He is getting a lot of pressure from his agent and publisher to finish the book. Soon after arriving he asks his publisher to hire him a secretary (Linda Hayden) who can help with typing and organizing his magnum opus, which he claims could win him a Pulitzer. Over the course of the film the two strangers begin to develop a strained relationship filled with an underlying sexual tension that never feels quite right. Things take a violent turn when Hayden’s character is raped at gunpoint by a pair of local thugs but she manages to get a hold of the gun and shoots her attackers. The horror of this event is magnified by the fact that she doesn’t tell anyone about it. Soon afterward Kier’s character asks his girlfriend (played by Brit sex star Fiona Raymond) to join him in the country and more bodies begin to pile up. All fingers point to the lovely Linda and the film doesn’t really make any effort to hide her involvement in these crimes...

A limited run (3,000 copies) of House on Straw Hill includes a bonus disc, and it's an excellent supplement. "Ban the Sadist Videos" is a terrific 2005 documentary about the UK's infamous "Video Nasties" list, and the bizarre censorship laws enacted in the '80s for home video releases.

• Audio Commentary with Director James Kenelm Clarke and Producer Brian Smedley-Aston. Jonathan Sothcott hosts the two filmmakers in a highly enjoyable commentary that covers a wealth of subjects.

• "An Angel for Satan": An Interview with Actress Linda Hayden is a fantastic if way too brief featurette which includes not just the interview, but some great archival material, including snippets of scenes and promotional materials from her films.

• Theatrical Trailer

• Bonus DVD: Ban the Sadist Videos (link)
