80,000 years ago. The primitive Ulam tribe’s most precious possession, their fire, is accidentally put out during a clash with another tribe. Three men are chosen and sent on a quest to find a new source of fire. Their quest leads them to a series of discoveries that takes them up the ladder towards civilization and finally to the very secret of making fire itself.
Using diverse locations in Kenya, Scotland, and Canada, Annaud tells the purely visual story of five tribes (some more advanced than others) who depend on fire for survival. Novelist Anthony Burgess created the primitive language for the early humans in this prehistoric adventure about a warriors who travel the savanna, encountering sabre-toothed tigers, mammoths and cannibalistic tribes in search of a flame that would replace the fire their tribe has lost.
