Magda (Penelope Cruz) has been suffering a terrible series of hard knocks lately; her husband, university professor Raul (Alex Brendemuhl), has recently left her and their son Dani (Theo Planell) for a buxom student. She no longer has a job teaching young school kids. And, thanks to putting off a visit to Dr. Julian (Asier Etxeandia), the small, unassuming lump in her breast is actually stage 3 breast cancer. On the same day she learns the devastating news, she meets someone else going through an equally difficult time – soccer scout Arturo (Luis Tosar), whose young daughter has died and his wife is comatose. Through the grieving and healing process, the pair’s bond develops into a romance. However, another crippling blow is about to be dealt – one that surprisingly brings newfound vigor and life to a death sentence.
