The young musician — a pianist — is blind and drags out a bitter existence in a San Francisco cafe. There a beautiful heiress who loves music and highly cultural things hears him thumb the keys idly one wasteful evening and goes for him. Frantically, in an endeavor to pull him out of the dumps and get him to finish his concerto, she pretends that she, too, is blind and also a poor but honest creature. She secretly sponsors a music composition contest to get him to accept her charity. As the deception deepens to desire and then love, can their romance survive the lies and bitterness it was built on?
