Nuovo Cinema Paradiso 1988
Winner of an Academy Award for the Best Foreign film in 1989, "Cinema Paradiso" is a touching tale of a young boy who is passionate about films, a passion that eventually shapes his destiny. We meet a young boy--the main protagonist--Salvatore (Salvatore Cascio), who against his mother's wishes sneaks his way into a local theater called Cinema Paradiso. Salvatore is about to embark on a journey into the world of cinema when he meets a theater projectionist, Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). Being a curious individual, Salvatore fiddles with the projector so that he can learn the art of changing the reels of film. He also manages to convince Alfredo to give him the cut film reels for his collection. Through an unforeseen event, Salvatore becomes the projectionist at Cinema Paradiso, and Alfredo helps him in getting the right skills. Meanwhile, he falls for a local girl, Elena (Agnese Nano), but Elena's father disapproves of their relationship. Alfredo asks Salvatore to leave town and never come back, so that he can pursue his destiny. Salvatore departs and comes back after thirty years when news from her mother draws him back to the town.
