Millionaire William van Luyn falls in love with his secretary Joan Thayer and marries her. Her family, part of "the great middle class" (as blowhard nephew Henry keeps reminding us), is happy for Joan, but reluctant to take charity from Will. Joan soon insists that he move in with her family and share the virtues and discomforts of her simple home life. The good-natured Van Luyn gamely moves in with Joan's family, eager to show he has no disdain for the hardships and shortcomings enjoyed by Joan's "class."
One day he finds that his new relatives suffer a quick change of heart about accepting the benefits of his money...
