Miss Mend / The Adventures of the Three Reporters / Мисс Менд (1926) 2 x DVD9

Miss Mend, an action-packed adventure serial in three feature-length episodes, was produced in Russia with the goal of rivaling, and possibly even surpassing, the most entertaining American movies of the 1920s. The fast-moving, exuberant adventure story emulates the style of the American serials that were so popular with Soviet cinema audiences while cheerfully satirising Soviet-American relations with a story which takes place in part in a technologically-advanced but corrupt America.
The story follows Vivian Mend, a single mother who needs no man, and three reporters who work to foil a biological attack on Russia by an unsavory Western industrialist. There are chases galore (on foot, in cars, on horseback), a stunning train wreck that leaves a mangled car with a body twisted in the wreckage, fistfights, bombs, and plenty of shots of vodka.
This 2-disc set comprises all four hours of the original series with a newly composed orchestral score.
