The film portrays one of the darkest political episodes in Ecuador and provides an insider’s look to the recent history of this country. 1988 was the year when governmental power shifted from the authoritarian social Christian Leon Febres Cordero to the left democrat Rodrigo Borja Cevallos.
On January 8, 1988, filmmaker Maria Fernanda Restrepo was 10 years old when her parents took a vacation and left her in the care of her teenage brothers. On that particular day, she went to a friend's birthday party and her brothers were to pick her up, but they never arrived. A year later, the family discovered that the police had kidnapped, severely beaten, and then murdered the two boys for no apparent reason at all. The bodies were dumped in the Yambo River, never to be found again.
Years later, the filmmaker has turned her trauma into a deeply personal documentary, conceived as a search both for her missing siblings as well as for the traces that the tragedy has left on her own life.
