The film examines the physical and spiritual struggles of an old master, a young monk and an orphaned boy in a remote monastery in the mountains of Korea.
The aged master and teacher Hyegok (Yi Pan-yong) is ill yet avoids medical treatment. Kibong (Sin Won-sop) does most of the work and is troubled by memories of the outside world he left behind. Young Haejin (Huang Hae-jin) is an orphan that Hyegok brought up the mountain several years before. Haejin is just beginning to explore the forest around the monks' retreat.
As the master faces death, he must lead his disciples in resolving their memories of the outside world and point them toward spiritual freedom.
