The Stendhal syndrome is a psychological condition where a viewer of great art feels overwhelmed by the work and suffers from hallucinations, nausea, and blackouts in its presence. In this movie, it affects Anna, a detective who’s intent on capturing a vicious serial rapist known as Alfredo. She eventually tracks him down to an art gallery, where, overcome with the images that she sees, she catches his attention and he introduces himself. Later that evening, Alfredo breaks into her hotel room and rapes her, forcing her to watch as he kills a victim. After this experience, she continues to hunt the killer, but her grip on sanity becomes more and more tenuous.
A police psychiatrist tells Anna about The Stendhal Syndrome, a delirious state experienced by visitors to art galleries. When it appears that the rapist is still stalking her, Anna goes home for a rest. But the seemingly unstoppable killer is not far behind, leaving a trail of female bodies in his wake.
