La solitudine dei numeri primi / The Solitude of Prime Numbers (2010)
Based on Paulo Giordano’s phenomenal novel about two main characters who are like prime numbers; they can only be divided by one and themselves, so they are always joined but forever separated.

This is the story of Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) and Mattia (Luca Marinelli), two lost souls that should have been destined to reign their lives alone. Both suffer disillusionment from their families, through guilt and neglect, presenting scars that haunt them throughout their lives. As a child Alice’s overbearing father drove her to a terrible skiing accident, and then to anorexia. When she meets Mattia she recognises a kindred spirit, and Mattia reveals to Alice his terrible secret: that as a boy he abandoned his mentally-disabled twin sister in a park to go to a party, and when he returned, she was nowhere to be found.
They meet at high school and build together a fragile equilibrium before going their separate ways.

Many years later, Alice and Mattia still bear the scars of this past that has kept them at the margins of life. Alice has taken refuge in photography; Mattia has developed a passion for math and made it her job. But nevertheless their destinies seem irrevocably tied...
