Muhammad Ali: The Whole Story (1996) 2 x DVD9

Muhammad Ali. He is known as the most thrilling athlete of all time... he is known as The Greatest. The remarkable story of how he became one of the most loved, hated, intriguing, and controversial figures in American history is brought to life in the 6-hour series, Muhammad Ali: The Whole Story.
More than the story of a boxer's life this is a gripping study of 60s and 70s America torn apart by racial conflict and the divisive effect of Vietnam. Ali is a key player in both and beyond - one of the most memorable sequences has him meeting Soviet Premier Brezhnev then being sent to Africa by Jimmy Carter to whip up support for the 1980 Moscow Olympics boycott. The sad chapters in Ali's later career are not glossed over, either. His pathetic circus act with Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki and reluctance to leave the ring as he approached 40 are handled head-on.
