'The Longest Night' is a story of incarceration and self-reflection. Hamed is an unemployed family man, struggling to find work to support the wife and daughter who depend on him. But when his family emigrate to Europe in search of a better future, Hamed finds himself left behind. Disheartened by his family's absence, Hamed imprisons himself and starts to revise his life in isolation. As he comes to some surprising revelations about himself, he realises it may not be too late to redeem himself.
The film's original title, Shab-e Yalda or Night of the Winter Solstice, which is the longest night of the year, is a metaphor for the period that follows the departure of Hamed's wife and daughter.
