In 1950, 25% of Baghdad’s population was Jewish. Though Jews had once played an important role in the making of modern Iraq, by the 1970s most had been brutally driven out of the country and the community virtually annihilated.
“Shadow in Baghdad” chronicles the disappearance of Iraq’s Jewish community through the eyes of Linda Abdel Aziz Menuhin, an Iraqi-born Israeli journalist who embarks on a quest to find out how and why her father — prominent lawyer Jacob Abdel Aziz — was kidnapped and murdered by Saddam Hussein’s thugs 40 years earlier.
Now living in Israel, Linda’s journey takes in London, Jordan and Baghdad, as she pieces together the fallout from Saddam Hussein’s treatment of the Jews in the 1960s. A chance encounter with a young Iraqi journalist prompts her investigation. As mutual suspicion converts to trust, the two begin to revisit a painful past, drawing closer and closer to the tragic story of Linda's father's ending...
