Since You Went Away 1944
An excellent film about life on the homefront and the struggles therein when men went off to fight World War II. Claudette Colbert gives a fine performance as a "well to do" woman who must struggle with the financial hardships which follow.
When Anne Hilton is left home alone with daughters Jane and Brig after her husband Tim goes off to face the enemy during WW2, she takes in a crotchety retired army colonel as a lodger. When the old man's estranged grandson William, a shy boy who has struggled to reach the lowly rank of corporal, comes to visit, he falls in love with teenage Jane, but then must leave to face an unknown destiny in the war zone himself.
