Alice in Wonderland 1966
Alice is having a peculiar day. Following a White Rabbit down a hole, Alice finds herself in a strange world inhabited by strange people...

Jonathan Miller's 1966 BBC adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novel was perhaps the first production that didn't treat Alice's journey down the rabbit hole as a children's story. Shot in dreamy B&W and populated by a stellar group of English actors, Miller's attempt to capture Carroll's whimsical poetry is a lesson in creative adaptation, and worthy of study by Carroll scholars.

Jonathan Miller's version is truly original, slyly subversive, and perfectly captures the haunting, dreamlike, subtly menacing atmosphere of Carroll's fantasy. With music by Ravi Shankar (a friend of The Beatles), this version turns out to be one of the most authentically British and has a stunning cast to match. The stellar cast includes members of the acting aristocracy as well as iconic figures of the period.
