It's the 1960s. Woodstock consummates the ''flower power'' generation and U.S. Congress witnesses an all-time high in protest marches. But things were a little different in Ecuador with a strict military discipline and a much more violent clash of political parties. Galvez’s left-wing party must elect its candidate, but he is shoved to one side because of the criticism of the party’s political leadership. While his struggle becomes bitter, he must withstand the frustration of not being able to offer full love to Margaramaria, another party member. These situations intertwine with the story of an author, another leftist believer, platonically enamoured of Rosana, a character in the book he is writing. The film combines realistic scenes with sensual dreams and outlandish episodes, until the author is overcome by his intense emotional context and admits, in a private dialogue with Karl Marx, that he is unable to tell the truth from fiction.
