Hannes Schupbach Trilogy
The films of renowned Swiss artist Hannes Schupbach are lyrical, often transcendent portraits of people, spaces, and everyday life. A painter, performance artist, and expert on textile art, Schupbach weaves together light, gesture, and a keen attentiveness to the material world into meticulously structured compositions.

In the trilogy SPIN/VERSO/CONTOUR (2001-2011), a double portrait with the artist's parents as the main figures, he deploys his physical aesthetic in order to construct a work in a model-like way through the exploration of memory. Out of material from the first two films – brief gestures and fragmentary views that appear in varying temporal patterns – Schupbach realizes "a third, which changes and redefines the relationship between the other two. The projection lengths of images and black screen are never the same; they are continually varied, being attuned to the flow of the film, so that it virtually slips out of consciousness", as the art critic Maja Naef explains in the book.
