Perry Henzell's 1972 film "The Harder They Come" will always be the quintessential reggae movie, forever tied to the music and culture of Jamaica. But if "The Harder They Come" introduced reggae on the big screen, giving it a cinematic identity, then Ted Bafaloukos' "Rockers" gave it heart and soul.
The film, featuring reggae drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Taylor, doesn’t quite tell a linear story, but rather follows the exploits of Horsemouth as he attains a motorcycle, has it stolen, then enlists a number of his friends to get his bike back. There’s also a sort of Robin Hood plot interwoven into the story, where Horsemouth and his friends fight back against a crime organization and take back what belongs to the people.
